Chapter 2 National Pension System
Taiwan's National Pension Insurance (NPI) was established on October 1, 2008 to cover citizens aged between 25 and 65 years old who do not participate in related social insurances for military personnel, civil servants and teachers, laborers, or farmers. By providing basic economic security for insured persons and their
families when insured persons become old or face maternity, disability, or death, NPI is a key milestone on the road to comprehensive social security. Establishment of NPI marked the start of a new era for Taiwan.
