3. In an effort to safeguard patients' dignity and rights to a good death, Taiwan announced the legislation of Patient Right to Autonomy on January 6 2016. The Act came into effect on January 6 2019 and became the first law in Asia legislated to protect patients' autonomy by granting persons with full disposing capacity to made advance decisions and accept or refuse treatment options that are available to him through advance care planning and prepare his advance decision in the form of a prior written and signed statement, thereby ensuring his rights to a good death. As of the end of 2021, a total of 31,139 declarants have signed their advance decision and registered their decision on their NHI IC cards.
ā–¸Section 5 Oral Health Care 1. Oral Health Promotion
(1) The Oral Fluoride Application and Promotion Advocacy Program was implemented, the promotion handbook Oral Fluoride Application and Promotion was drawn up for oral care related professionals and promotional videos, posters, leaflets made and training courses held with regard key items in the handbook.
(2) In 2021, 4,800 adults aged over 18 and elderly people received oral heath checks and completed a questionnaire.
(3) The Adult Oral Health and Institution Oral Care Pilot Program was conducted, the Adult Oral Health professional handbook and Institution Oral Care work guide drawn up, education and training online course videos recorded and institution oral care guidance work carried out at four institutions in north, central, south and east Taiwan to increase the importance attached to oral health by related professionals.
2. Provide Dental Health Services to Young Children
(1) 1.07 million fluoride varnish application services were provided in 2021, with the use rate of at least one application of fluoride varnish for 3-6 years of 81.5%.
(2) Approximate 510,000 first and second grade children received permanent molar fissure sealant fillings in 2021.
(3) An elementary school fluoride mouthwash program was promoted; 1.12 million children took part in 2021, with service coverage rate of over 95%.
