 daytime psychiatric rehabilitation institutions capable of serving 3,568 persons, 166 psychiatric rehabilitation institutions that offered accommodation (with 7,034 beds), psychiatric day care centers (capable of serving 6,164 persons), and 49 psychiatric nursing homes (with 5,013 beds).
3. The MOHW subsidized county and city governments to recruit 183 outreach community care visitors. In 2021, 621,983 outreach visits were made to 115,032 psychiatric patients.
4. Mandatory hospitalizations and mandatory community care for severe patients are carried out in accordance with the "Mental Health Act." In 2021, there were 574 applications, including 534 applications for mandatory hospitalization and 40 applications for mandatory community care. (Table 4-3)
5. Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 psychiatric hospital accreditation and psychiatric teaching hospital accreditation was suspended for two years; the accreditation period of hospitals still in the valid period has been extended across the board. The 2021 psychiatric rehabilitation institution and psychiatric nursing home accreditation was suspended for one year; the accreditation period of institutions still in the valid period was extended across the board.
▏Section 3 Forensic Psychiatry
1. To make Taiwan's the forensic psychiatry system complete, on February 17 2021, the MOHW's Mental and Oral Health established the Forensic Psychiatry Section, to actively promote mental health services and assist offenders with mental disorders gradual return to society.
2. The Taiwan Academy of Psychiatry and the Law began holding selection operations for forensic psychiatric doctors from 2020. As of the end of 2021, 73 doctors had passed selection and been willingly announced, the name list provided to district persecutors offices and courts for reference.
3. To optimize the service quality and capability of forensic psychiatry appraisal, in 2021 the Taiwan Academy of Psychiatry and the Law was commissioned to set a model reference guide to forensic psychiatry assessment with
regard criminal responsibility ability and trial ability.
4. In 2021, subsidies were approved for two medical institutions to renovate existing wards and established 88 beds for forensic psychiatric patients.
▏Section 4 Control of Drug Addiction
1. By the end of 2021, the MOHW designated 168 drug addiction treatment institutions and another 186 institutions for alternative therapy. Subsidized alternative therapy was first made available to opioid addicts in 2006. As of the end of 2021, 46,290 were treated, and 6,737 still in treatment. In addition, local departments of health and core hospitals of psychiatric care networks organized 56 training sessions for drug addiction treatment personnel, with 3,824 participants.
2. In 2006, the MOHW began to subsidize alternative treatment of opioid addiction. This was followed by the introduction of across-the- board subsidies for treating narcotics addiction in May 2019. 13,211 people benefited from such subsidies in 2021.
3. Since 2006, MOHW's Tsaotun Psychiatric Center has been receiving funding to establish a therapeutic community for drug addicts which were expanded to 6 private facilities in 2019. There were a total of 343 beds in 2021. In 2021, 410 people obtained assistance in settlement with 64,297 in-patient days. In addition, the Ministry also subsidized 19 NGOs to carry out the "Drug Addict Community Rehabilitation Scheme Deployment and Service Quality Upgrading Program." Under this program, 222 people obtained assistance in settlement; 29,834 people received various psychological social treatment (such as health education courses, vocational training and employment matching), total 22,916 people.

From September 2014, medical institutions have been subsidized to go to correctional institutions to provide alcohol and drug addiction services and Number of subsidized medical institutions is being gradually expanded.
