2. According to Taiwan's "Diplomate Specialization and Examination Regulations" there are 23 medical specialties. Until the end of 2021, 59,066 physicians received their medical specialty licenses in Taiwan.
3. The revised "Dentist Specialization and Examination Regulations" was promulgated on October 5 2018 and the revision added 7 new specializations to the original 3 for dentists, to a total of 10 specializations. As of the end of 2021, there are 2,266 certified dentists (750 orthodonitics, 440 oral maxilla-facial surgery, 81 oral pathology, 355 pedodontics, 280 endodontics, 240 prosthodonitics and 120 operative dentistry).
4. Post-graduate general medical training is conducted to strengthen the concept and ability of holistic care. In 2021, there were 39 teaching hospitals and 113 collaborating hospitals providing postgraduate year (PGY) training programs in Taiwan. 2,846 medical graduates received training under this scheme. (PGY1-1,546 and PGY2-1,300.)
5. A system of postgraduate clinical training for dentists has been put in place to ensure quality oral health care. As of 2021, Taiwan certified 541 institutions (90 hospitals and 451 clinics) offer this training. 924 dentists received training under this project.
6. To enhance the professional nursing development and health care quality, nurse practitioner certification examinations began in 2006. As of end of 2021, the total number of certificated nurse practitioners was 13,341, as shown in Table 4-4. Also, to enhance the
quality and safety of anesthesia nursing, the MOHW added anesthesia as a specialty of nurse practitioners in accordance with Article 2 of the amended the Regulations Governing Specialties and Examination of Nurse Practitioner, and effected on September 26, 2020. Followed by the country's first written test for anesthesia nurse practitioner on December 6, 2020, and the subsequent oral test was conducted in 2021; 3,267 nurses obtained anesthesia licenses.
7. Since 2007, the MOHW launched the "Clinical Practitioner Training Program." In 2021, 1,230 individual training programs at 148 participating hospitals were approved by MOHW. 26,905 health workers were trained through these programs; 88.65% of health professionals received this training within four years of gaining a license.
8. A clinical training system for Chinese medical physicians is going to be established to train those physicians with comprehensively professional competency in therapy. The program for the Training of Responsible Physicians in Chinese Medical Care Institutions is conducted. Up to 538 rookie Chinese medical physicians participated in a 2-year training course offered by 117 training hospitals which were supported by this program in 2021. To nurture Chinese and Western medicine joint treatment and Chinese medicine empirical research talent and enhance the professional training of Chinese medicine branches, the MOHW drew up the Draft Guidelines for Chinese Medicine Doctor Branch and Selection and training basic criteria.
