 Chapter 4 Immunization
▏Section 1 Current Immunization Status and Trends
Taiwan's Vaccine Fund was established in 2010, and new vaccine policies have been implemented each year since then. At present, there are 10 free routine vaccines for young children that can prevent 15 infectious diseases.
A "National Immunization Information System" was established by Taiwan CDC to monitor and track the immunization status of young children. Children's routine vaccination coverage rate has been maintained, as shown in Figure 6-9. To deal with the side effects of immunizations, the MOHW has established the "Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP)" to
enable victims to receive the assistance they are legally entitled to.
▏Section 2 Development and Manufacture of Antiserums/
vaccines
Taiwan CDC commissions National Health Research Institutes' bioproduction plant to manufacture Bacillus Calmette-Guerin vaccine. In addition, the National Health Research Institute's bioproduction plant was also commissioned to produce snake antivenom immunoglobulin into freeze-dried antivenom. In 2021, a total of 262 kilograms of snake antivenom, 4,230 kilograms of freeze-dried antivenom were manufactured, with 3,628 doses being supplied. Also, 540,000 doses of the BCG vaccine were manufactured.
