  Chapter 1 Technological Studies on Health and Welfare
The budget for technological development in 2021 was NTD 4.33 billion, accounting for 1.75% of MOHW's budget. This funding was mainly used for empirical studies, innovation, translational research, and health and welfare data analysis and statistics compilation in accordance with public health and social welfare policies. We commissioned or subsidized 451 research projects, and the actual application rate for technological achievements was 78.61%.
ā–¸Section 1 Task-oriented research to support evidence-based
policymaking
1. Public Health Promotion
(1) Developing metabolic syndrome case management plan and core training project, establishing abilities of metabolic syndrome managerial abilities of clinical staff, and providing academic societies for continuous education applications.
(2) Developing electronic self-assessment scales, including images and voices, connecting with health educational information and searching for community resources, in order to facilitate self-health management by elderly people.
(3) Analyzing the overweight or obesity situation and problems, developing intervention services such as diet, exercise, and changes of lifestyles.
2. Food and Drug Management
(1) Through stipulating food management regulation guidelines for export, and providing on-the-spot guidance for food export manufacturers with health safety regulations that fulfill requirements in the target country. Promoting the equivalence evaluation inspections of food safety management for importing countries which expand the export market of Taiwan.
(2) With regard to the multiple chemical high throughput screening technique, 50 items of colorants were added , often seen illegal additive drugs, or efficacy ingredients. 190 compounds could be screened
simultaneously, in order to strengthen the abilities of discovering illegal additives.
(3) "Safety guidelines of medical devices suitable for manufacturing use," "medical device network safety evaluation analysis reference template," were completed. The modern product managerial environment was established to speed up the process of market listing.
(4) 9 medicine related regulations, translated domestic pharmaceutical management regulations were accomplished, 655 clinical tests for safety information, 32 drug safety re-evaluation cases conducted, and risk management measures of 16 medicine were stipulated, to reinforce the effectiveness of management and control.
3. Research, Development and Promotion of Traditional Chinese Medicine
(1) In 2021, 6 issues including 69 articles have been published in the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (JTCM) In April, it was included in the SCI Expanded database, and became Taiwan's first SCIE Chinese Medicine Academic Journal.
(2) The inspection regulations of 2 items of concentrated ease powder preparation in the Taiwan Herbal Pharmacopeia individual draft and 3 items of miltiorrhiza for the reference of the fifth edition of Taiwan Herbal Pharmacopeia were accomplished.
(3) The transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation gloves was developed, using non-intrusive treatment to stimulate acupoints, helping drug addicts reduce the desire of drugs, promoting stable rate of follow-up appointment.
(4) The virtual reality acupuncture models were improved with skeletal muscles, and depth design of picking acupunctures, using this model to design 3 clinical medical cases to use in OSCE tests.
(5) Developed Chinese medicine or herbal extract quality analysis methods. A total of 170 analyses were accomplished, and recorded in the Chinese medicine quality analysis database for industrial, governmental, academic applications, to increase drug safety for people.
