indigenous dengue cases by year, and Figure 6-4 illustrates the number of imported dengue cases by year. The number of confirmed cases of chikungunya is shown in Figure 6-5.
In 2021, the cases of enterovirus infection remained at a low level, with no severe cases. The main reason was that people cooperated with COVID-19 prevention measures, thereby reducing transmission.
2. Acute Hepatitis A
Due to effective prevention measures implemented since 2018, there were only 74 confirmed cases of acute hepatitis A in 2021. (All were domestic cases).
▏Section 3 Vector-Borne Communicable Diseases
In 2021, border controls were imposed to prevent COVID-19, reducing the risk of imported dengue fever and Chikungunya fever. In 2021, there were 12 confirmed imported cases of dengue fever; the total number of confirmed chikungunya case was 1; with no local transmission. Figure 6-3, shows the number of

Between 1984 and the end of 2021, there were a cumulative total of 42,260 reported cases of HIV among Taiwanese nationals. Of those infected, 20,343 developed full-blown AIDS, which led to 7,616 deaths. In 2021, there were 1,246 new reported cases. Compared to 2020, there had been a decline of 10%; the male-to-female ratio for those infected is 32:1. Among the newly infected, 93% of them had contracted the disease through unsafe sex, particularly unsafe homosexual sex. These constituted 84% of all contracted cases for the year. The outcome of disease prevention in 2021 is as follows:
