 and testing services; approximately 10,000 people received screening service.
(2) The "Harm Reduction Program"remained in place. Newly reported cases of substance abuse had fallen from 72% in 2005 to 1.8% in 2021.
(3) For privacy concerns and convenience purposes, the MOHW has offered HIV screening consultation and referral services through its Free HIV Anonymous Screening and Consultation Project to approximately 31,083 people. The MOHW also supplied self-screening kits for AIDS through manual distribution, automatic kiosks, and convenient store pickups for online orders. More than 51,119 people have benefitted from this service.
(4) The Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) program continued to be implemented. Together with local health bureaus and 37 executing agencies, as of 2021, 1,542 people had received holistic integrated care services.
(5) The MOHW implemented a universal HIV screening among pregnant women. In
2021, 8 new cases were found through the screening of pregnant woman but, thanks to the preventive measures, there had been no cases of vertical transmission. (Figure 6-6)
(6) There were 84 designated medical institutions and 63 community drug stores that provide medical services for HIV/ AIDS patients. The Plan for Service Quality Improvement in Hospitals Designated for Treatment of HIV/AIDS was launched. 94% of HIV patients received medication, and 95% of those receiving medication had an undetectable viral load.
(7) Local health bureaus (health centers) were instructed to ensure that patients received medical assistance regularly and reinforce consultation services and follow- up checkups for their partners. Subsidies were also provided to NGOs that assist with patient care as halfway houses or offer treatment arrangements, emergency accommodation, and case management services. Placement was offered in 1,100 cases, and case management services were provided to 416 patients.
