During 2017-2021, the number of elderly (aged 65 and older) abuse cases increased slightly each year from 9,083 persons in 2017 to 13,127 persons in 2021, accounting for 2.80‰ and 3.30‰ of the nationwide elderly population respectively, as shown in Table 11-1.
In 2021, the municipal and county (city) governments provided more than 1.73 million
assistance for the protection of victims of domestic violence, and the total amount of assistance provided was more than NTD 911.13 million. The main subsidies were subsidies for shelter, emergency support, psychological rehabilitation, medical costs, lawyers, and litigation costs (Table 11-2).

▏Section 2 Diverse Intervention for Victims of Domestic Violence
In response to the multiple needs of the victims of domestic violence at different stages of recovery, we constantly assist local governments in promoting domestic violence prevention in collaboration with NGOs with the Public Welfare Lottery Subsidization Fund. The relevant programs are as follows:
1. Shelter program for victims of domestic violence: Subsidies were provided for partnerships between local governments and NGOs to provide short-, mid- or long-term emergency shelter and placement services for victims. In 2021, 26 short term emergency shelter and placement services in 20 counties and cities were set up. A total of 566 people were served.
