 ▏Section 2 Health for Infants, Children, and Adolescents
MOHW has been providing health services such as neo-natal congenital metabolic disorder screening, newborn hearing screening, 7 times children preventive healthcare and health education services for children of age 7 years and below and vision care. Not only that, we have also organized and promoted health promotion plan for adolescents (Figure 3-3).
1. Screening of newborns in Taiwan for congenital metabolic disorders is subsidized for 21 items of screening. In 2021, a total of 157,143 babies had been screened with a coverage rate of over 99%. All atypical cases were provided with follow-up referrals, diagnosis, and treatment.
2. Fully subsidized newborn hearing screening is provided within the first three months of birth (for children with Taiwan nationality). In 2021, 156,876 (98.9%) newborns were screened.
3. 7 times preventive health care and health education services are provided to children of age 7 years and below. In 2021, 958,341 preventive health care services and 855,188 health education services were provided.
4. Every city and county has established one to five Child Development Assessment Center(s). In 2021, a total of 52 centers were established and about 18,268 children had completed the joint assessment service, with a positive diagnosis rate of 95.48%.
